Potential Problems with French Doors

We often write about the many advantages of French doors, but there are times when these are not suitable, so you do have to consider the size, style and layout of your house. Let’s say you have a huge open kitchen/diner and you want some doors to open out to your garden, French doors can work well. That is if you are fortunate to have a well-insulated house. If, however, you want to keep as much warmth inside, you may not want to choose doors, which are largely constructed of glass. You can of course combat this issue with thick curtains in the colder months, but it will depend on how warm your house is. Some restored barns are not well suited to French Doors, and solid oak doors are a nicer option, so do contemplate the many options before you decide on the type of doors that are right for you, your house and your garden.
