Freestanding Stoves

Many householders these days are opting for built-in hobs and ovens when they are installing a new kitchen in their home. However, there is still a large market for those who prefer a freestanding cooker or oven. If you move home, then you are much more likely to be able to take this cooker with you.

Most of the smaller, more basic freestanding cookers are either fuelled by electric or gas. A few of them may come with a gas hob and electric oven. A small cooker will fit a gap of 500-600mm in a kitchen. Sometimes the grill may be incorporated in the top of the oven or you could buy a cooker with an eye-level grill, though these seem to be less widely available nowadays. The hob of a basic cooker usually has 4 burners.

If you have more money to spend and want a larger cooker, then a range cooker will fit a space of 900mm or more. Depending on the size, a hob on a range cooker will have a minimum of 5 rings and may have as many as eight, one of which is likely to be a wok ring and another will be a small simmer ring. Range cookers have a minimum of 2 ovens, one of which may contain the grill or the cooker may have a dedicated grill . The oven size of a range cooker is noticeably bigger than in a basic freestanding cooker and there is more space around the rings of the hob too, plus more storage space at the bottom for storing baking trays and roasting tins.

Range cookers come in a huge range of colours and finishes and you are bound to find one that suits your new kitchen perfectly.
